| Gospel Choir |
 |
The Pomona College Gospel Choir is a choral ensemble
dedicated to African American sacred music traditions of the
20th Century. The choir was founded in 1996 with Barbara
Lyons as its director. It is also an academic course taken
for credit by students from Claremont's Five Colleges and
includes members from the community at large. The choir is
one of the most culturally diverse groups at the Claremont
Colleges. Its members have included a nine-year old
elementary student, a 9th grade high school student, and an
accounting administrator from the Xerox Corporation. The
choir's common bond is its love for singing gospel music and
other types of African American songs.
